86% of Gypsy/Traveller pupils from housed and local authority site
accommodation attend mainstream schools. Those pupils not attending
are currently on appeal for places in specific schools or are,in
the case of secondary pupils, seeking home based education for cultural
reasons.
Currently no roadside pupils are accessing education due to
- regular and frequent eviction
- parental reluctance
There is no national comparitive data available.A benchmarking
group has recently been established by Traveller Education Support
Services to undertake this work.WMCESTC are part of this group.
