GAPS
A project working with small groups
of students developing social,and inter-personal skills in the outdoor
environment
Aims
- To improve group interaction skills.
- To learn problem solving skills
- To develop self awareness and awareness of others.
- To develop confidence and self concept through mutual contribution
and team work.
- To increase listening skills.
- To develop determination and perseverance.
- To foster commitment and Trust.
- To stimulate imagination.
The project has encouraged children to
- Work co-operatively with others.
- Increase frequency of ‘praise/build up statements’
- Learn to listen
- Learn to contribute ideas
- Learn effective communication
- Learn to accept praise
- Learn to solve problems
- Follow instructions
The course is intended for use in natural environment.
It has clear success indicators that must be reinforced in the classroom
situation when students are in school after completion of the course
and will be most effective if opportunities in the classroom are
given to enable reinforcement of these skills.
Sessions include a debrief where participants
are encouraged to discuss issues which have arisen during the session
The project has
- Increased inter-personal skills of participants
- Encouraged a greater understanding of individual strengths and
weaknesses
- Fostered a group identity
- Developed new skills thereby enhancing self-esteem
SUPPORTING INCLUSION CENTRES
A variety of different models exist
across Telford. The BST is involved in a number of ways including
advice and consultancy, working with individuals, working with small
groups through art, circle time activities, etc.
