Support for Teenage Pregnancy
The support for the inclusion of school age girls who are pregnant
or who are mothers is a key strand of the Government's Social Inclusion
policy.
This Authority with the support of a Standards Fund Grant is developing
its policy to:
- re-integrate school age mothers back into mainstream education
- ensure access to education for school age mothers who are out
of school and to ensure continuity of education and/or training
post 16
- ensure pregnant teenagers and school age parents obtain appropriate
contraceptive and parenting advice and to access ante and post
natal services
This policy development has been supported by the appointment of
a Teenage Pregnancy Support Officer (TPSO). This post, which is
jointly funded by both the Health and the Education Authority has
been the key element in developing the policy to date. Please see
the attached document
for details of the referral route to the TPSO.
