Behaviour Support Plan: Good Practice

PHOENIX SCHOOL EDUCATION SUPPORT UNIT: MULTI-AGENCY MEETINGS

These meetings developed from the need to co-ordinate pupil provision between the Education Psychology Service and the Behaviour Support Team.  They have evolved to include the Education Welfare Officer and the Youth Service.  Other agencies are referred to and may well be invited to future meetings should the need arise.  Within School they are attended by the SENCO and Heads of Upper and Lower School the SENCO chairs the meetings.

There is a two-fold focus to the group’s work.  Firstly to discuss individual pupils, those already known to the forum as well as new referrals.  The appropriateness of programmes offered to the needs of the pupils and the service or agency best able to support the school.

The second focus is on systems and procedures within the school.  Discussions take place on where pupils are causing problems, probable or known triggers and suggestions for dealing with them.  Through the heads of Upper and Lower School information can be taken to Senior Management.

The group will also review the progress of referred pupils and involve other agencies should this be necessary.  Meetings are usually held on a half termly basis after school although breakfast and lunchtime meetings are not unknown.
